This invention is known as the stepped handle design. As the name suggests, the penhold bat handle looks like a step. But due to the concerns that stepped handle innovation is overly revolutionary compared to the traditional pen-hold grip design, at the same time, two separate designs namely: raised- height block handles on the back of the bat, and prolonged bottom handle at the back of the bat have been developed.

Talking about the origin of this invention, it was completely unexpected. It was accidentally discovered during child play in a table tennis game when using a flat pan as a table tennis bat. The excellent hand feel of holding the flat pan gave rise to the creation of Novelgrip and triggered the 12 years of study and research. At the same time, conceptually similar simple stepped handle design was also immediately developed, followed by raised height block handle design and prolonged bottom handle at the back of the bat. After reading it, Guoqiuhui is very touched and tend to realise: Since ancient times and existence of ping pong masters and elite players, it is so fortunate to have such dedicated pen-hold grip fans! Even though pen-hold style inherently has advantage of flexibility and ability for game manipulation, under the trend of changes in the International Table Tennis Federation, the ability to create more powerful shots becomes highly emphasized. Therefore, flexible pen-hold grip style has slowly lost its appeal. Perhaps one day in the future, penhold grip will disappear in the international scene. And that is truly a very regretful outcome in table tennis arena.
